Director of Residential Construction
Ben is the high level oversight for the Fort Totten Team. With over two decades of construction experience under his belt, Ben Apfelbaum leads DAVIS project teams as Director of our burgeoning Multi-Family Residential group. From concept to preconstruction all the way through project completion, he supervises office and field activities to ensure each step of the building process runs as smoothly as possible. Ben has an immense skillset, acquired through his work on some of the best multifamily residential projects in the DC region, ranging from affordable units to high-end condominiums. His incredible work history has always represented DAVIS well and reflected our comprehensive approach to construction. Ben’s expertise has proven invaluable throughout his time at DAVIS, and he continues to provide insights to the building community by working with organizations like Urban Land Institute.
Ben is excited to conduct DAVIS’s 3rd project with the APAH and KCM team.

Project Manager
Adam is now in his 8th full year at DAVIS and brings 10+ years of experience to the team. Adam graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for a civil design firm in Maryland before recognizing his passion for construction. He returned to DAVIS and has since built over 700 residential units, ranging from high-end condos to affordable apartments. Adam prides himself on his technical approach and engineering mindset to resolve problems before they might occur. With this approach, he ensures that projects are built on time and to the high standards that residents expect and deserve.
Adam recently completed a project with APAH and KCM called Oakwood Meadow Senior Residences, APAH’s first foray into Fairfax County. Adam is excited and proud to be a part of APAH’s first DC project, especially since the project takes place in the same ward that he calls his home, Ward 4!

Superintendent
Michael is our field team lead and the newest team member to the DAVIS family. With over 17 years of experience in construction, Michael started his career as a laborer with Miller & Long. He moved his way up through the company as a carpenter’s assistant and an assistant layout technician. He then went to work for Brother’s Concrete who was procured by Baker DC. Michael continued to work his way up as a layout technician. A few years later, he was offered a job at Lendlease as an assistant superintendent and getting promoted to superintendent. After the local Lendlease offices disbanded, Mike began working for Balfour Beatty, continuing on the superintendent path. Having several connections within DAVIS employees and a large background in high rise multi-family residential construction, Mike applied to DAVIS and is ready to lead our field team with his wealth of construction knowledge and can-do attitude.

Project Engineer
McKenzie is the youngest member of the DAVIS team. After graduating with an Architecture degree from Catholic University, McKenzie has worked with DAVIS for just over 1 year now and is fully immersed in the DAVIS way. She will be managing the bulk of submittals and RFIs throughout the course of construction. She’ll be reviewing for constructability and quality related issues to ensure that the products utilized throughout construction meet or exceed the design intent. She’ll also be coordinating closely with our trade partners to ensure material arrives on schedule and will eventual manage some project financials and reporting. She’ll also be a day-to-day problem solver by looking ahead for potential conflicts with different building components and addressing them promptly.

Josue Marquina started with DAVIS in 2015 as a laborer and worked his way up as a layout technician and eventually a field engineer. Josue spent (7) years performing technical field checks and quality control measures such as setting gridlines, monitoring piles, verifying sleeve locations, shooting windows for alignments, and much more. His expertise lies in both concrete, pre-cast, sitework, and a high level of attention to detail.
Josue recently transitioned into a role as a project superintendent where his strong technical background will allow him to lead the field QC efforts, assist with managing concrete pours, documentation, and much more. He will grow to lead either the facade or interior rough-in process in the near future.

Project Administrator
With the multitude of project labor requirements on this job due to the public funds involved and District requirements, Shalonda has a critical role on this project - trade partner compliance! Shalonda will be managing our certified payroll, First Source Plans, CBE subcontracting plans and verifications, and Section 3 labor requirements. Shalonda has extensive experience overseeing these requirements on several other DAVIS projects recently. She’ll be an integral member of the project team as she will lead the coordination with and reporting to the DC entities as well as Motivation, Inc. to ensure compliance.
-
Tom is our lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager for the project. He is in charge with establishing the overall safety plan, setting team safety standards, and setting up the team for success in safety compliance to ensure everyone leaves work in the same safe condition they started.
-
Julian has nearly 20 years of industry experience, 17 of which have been with DAVIS. Julien is unofficially monitoring our SOE system, aiding with concrete layout, MEP penetration location verifications, slab opening quality control, and much more. Julian will play a large part in concrete QC and window alignment QC before helping with stakeout of the hardscape at the end of the project.

Sam is new to DAVIS and is quickly learning from Julian. Currently, he primarily assists Julian, but is performing computations for field checks and setting control lines and benchmarks to ensure building location and dimensional accuracy. Again, his heavy lift is during concrete, but he’ll be on site periodically throughout wood framing and hardscape/landscaping work as well.
